Technologies that are forward and backward compatible
The HD imaging chain includes the light source, telescope, HD camera head, HD CCU, HD video cables, HD monitor, and image capture and management systems. Making the transition to HD usually requires certain imaging chain components to be replaced. Because Image 1® is a “platform” rather than a “system” and is HD ready, it can be upgraded rather than replaced—significantly extending the platform’s lifespan. And, Image 1® HD is backward compatible. This means that existing SD cameras and video scopes can be used with Image 1® HD CCUs — making transitions simpler, more manageable and cost effective. We can offer you this solution while others don’t because of SMART TECHNOLOGY. KARL STORZ made a conscious decision when it developed the Image 1® imaging platform to move the brain of the camera from the CCU to the camera head. This allows us to use one processor for single- and three-chip cameras, to digitize the video signal at the sensor, upgrade our cameras to HD and other new technologies as they arise, and add functionality by software upgrades. And because of their high quality and performance, our HOPKINS® II telescopes and 300 Watt Xenon light source is already HD compatible, making your HD upgrade even more affordable, helping to lower the cost of ownership.
